Note by T. H. Raddall
The above record is evidently not complete, for it does not include Captain Charles Campbell, mentioned by Tarleton as killed in action at Fishing Creek; nor does it include Captain John Spencer, mentioned by Benjamin Marston as a former officer of Tarleton's Dragoons; nor does it include the Captain Huck mentioned by Tarleton as killed or captured with most of his troops near Hanging Rock, South Carolina, unless he is the person shown as "Quartermaster John Tuck".
Of the officers in the list, Major Charles Cochrane was killed st Yorktown; Major George Hanger was wounded at Charlotte, North Carolina September, 1780: Captain David Kinlock was specially mentioned by Tarleton for his part in the fight at Wacsaw or Waxhaw, South Carolina 1780: Capt. Richard Hovenden was mentioned by Tarleton for a smart bit of scouting at Allamance, North Carolina, 1781. Tarleton mentions a "Lieutenant Skinner" for smart service at the fight at Blackstocks, S. C. Nov. 1780; no doubt this was the Surgeon's Mate Joseph Skinner, shown in the list above. Lieut. Allan Cameron Was mentioned by Tarleton for good work in the preliminary skirmishes before Yorktown, 1781.

The above does not show all the Legion soldiers who took up land at Port Mouton. There is a clear tradition amongst their descendants that 125 soldiers drew their lands at Port Mouton from tickets shaken up in a hat. Some of these tickets are still in existence. I have seen six, of which one does not appear in the above list; this was the ticket of Thomas Jones, a soldier-settler at Port Mouton, for whom Jones Creek at that place is named.
